Kara Fulginiti Chosen Rhode Island's 2012 Cherry Blossom Princess

The RI Cherry Blossom Festival Committee is pleased to announce that Kara Fulginiti has been chosen Rhode Island's 2012 Cherry Blossom Princess.

Kara is a graduate of Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. While at the University she served as the president of the Towson University Chapter of the Golden Key International Honors Society, whose tenets are service, leadership, and scholarship. She also performed as a dancer on the university’s Pom Squad, competing at national competitions as well as men’s and women’s basketball and football games. This past summer, she taught English in children’s summer camps across Italy. Kara plans to pursue her master’s degree in speech language pathology in the coming fall.

Kara will be participating in Rhode Island's Cherry Blossom Festival in May as well as several other activities, and will represent Rhode Island at the 100th Anniversary of the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. from April 7-14, 2012.

Every year in April, a young woman representing each state and territory across the country travels to Washington, D.C. to attend a week of education, leadership, and cultural activities, which includes a Congressional reception, a grand ball, and visits to foreign embassies. The weeklong festival culminates with the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. One princess will be chosen out of all the state delegates by a spin of the wheel to become United States Cherry Blossom Queen, and will go on to represent the United States in Japan later this spring.
